What is RTP?

RTP (return-to-player) is the single most useful number on a slot. Here is what it does and does not tell you.

The one-line definition

RTP is the percentage of all wagered money a slot is designed to pay back over the very long run. A 96% RTP means that across millions of spins, the game returns about £96 for every £100 staked — the other £4 is the house edge.

What RTP is not

It is not a session promise. Over one evening you might win big or lose it all; RTP only describes the long-run average. It also says nothing about volatility — two 96% slots can feel completely different.

Rules of thumb

Anything at or above 96% is considered fair; 97%+ is generous. Below 94% the edge starts to bite. On Bonafit88 you can sort every slot by RTP.
